Toot Sweet!'s Story: The Purse that Started It All
Some women love shoes, others denim, for me it's purses. I have about 50 (not anymore - now I only carry my own or vintage, and a select few that I just LOVE). In an effort to curb my spending, my loving fiancee, Jamie, proposed a deal: I cannot buy a single purse for a whole year, and he'll give me $500. I said, "Deal!"...until about 3 months in and the desire for a new purse was overwhelming. Now, I've been sewing since I was old enough to hold a needle, and patterns have always confused more than aided, so I've been "cutting before I measure" for a while now. I asked Jamie, "Can I make a purse and not call off the deal?" He thought about it, and responded, "Yes...but you cannot buy anything for the purse." So I looked at what I had around, and found a lovely skirt, a remnant to match, a vintage zip, and contrast thread. Good to go. I carried it to work the next week and my friends loved it. Toot Sweet was born!
I'm a high-maintenance hippie, engineer by day, purse designer by night. I recycle religiously, mainly because I hate the thought of landfills. Please check out my blog for more ramblings about my adventures in sewing, or head to my Etsy shop to check out my products!
